Things To Remember When Designing An E-Commerce Website

In this age and era of the internet, doing business has become easy and fast. This has become a major avenue as millions of people have access to the internet everyday. Developing an e-commerce site is therefore one of the most important things to consider for every business owner. The online shops have been able to bring down the boundaries that limited the businesses and now one can reach a big number of people each day but this is only possible with proper planning.

When designing this site however, numerous factors need to consideration. This will help to make your e-shop easily accessible and interesting thus attracting the audience as they search for their desired items. Developing the e-commerce website requires a critical thinking and one must think of what customers are interested in instead of catering for his or her own desires. Think like a customer or just consider what it is that you look for in e-commerce websites whenever you are looking for different products. With this in mind, it will be easy to develop a site that caters for your customers’ needs with greater satisfaction.

What to consider when designing the e-commerce site

Security

Every customer visiting your site needs assurance that his or her private information is secure through encryption. SSL or Secure Sockets Layer is the most commonly used form of security for e-commerce and uses encryption protocol to protect all the customer information during the transmission over the internet. The e-commerce sites must guarantee the security of the customers’ credit cards among other things.

Design A Site That Matches With Your Products And Services

Your e-commerce site must have its own unique identity and this is only possible if your site matches with the products, you have to offer. This will mean using the appropriate images and colors that are closely associated with what your site promises the visitors. For example, if your site sells computers and computer products, it will be unwise to use shoes or toys as your images as these do not relate in any way. Likewise, a site offering real estate services will look odd if you use toy images, as these are not coherent with each other.

Make Use Of Easy Navigation Tools

Customers would like to locate their products with ease. The only guarantee for this is if you make the navigation tools easy to use. You can do this by designing friendly search tools that helps your customers to find whatever they want without consuming a lot of time. You can have your navigation tools positioned somewhere the customers will locate it easily and clearly. It is also important to consider including refined search options in your e-commerce site to help your customers to narrow down their search for more precision.

Use High Quality Images

Research has shown that images have a way of catching people’s imaginations more than anything else catches. For this reason, your product images should be clear and appealing to capture the attention of your clients easily.

Give clear product price

Every user visiting your e-commerce site want to know how much the product of interest will cost them without going round in circles. You can enhance this option by showing the customers the discount percentages they are getting by buying products from your online shop. You can also give product description here to help the clients understand your products more.

Learn How To Select Fonts For Your Website?

When choosing the font for your website, it’s important to keep in mind that you want your website to have a clean and professional look to it.  This is accomplished in many different ways, but the font you choose can have a huge impact on the look and feel of your site.  Choosing the right font will help your site look clean, professional and stand out from other sites on the net.

Keep in mind that when choosing your font, you need to read the license and be sure you are using the font within the license agreement.  While many fonts are available for free download, you may have to attribute the designer to use it on a commercial website.

As youpick the font for your site, there are several things to consider.  One of the first things to think about is whether the font you want to use is web safe or not.  When a font is considered web safe, it will show up the same across the many different web browsers.

There are a few ways to get around the differences that can change your font from one browser to the next, but there are a few that are safe for all the major web browsers.  Using one of the web safe fonts will ensure that your font will render the same way across all browsers.  These web safe fonts include the fonts:
·         Ariel
·         Comic Sans MS
·         Courier New
·         Georgia
·         Times New Roman
·         Verdana

Other things that you will want to consider when choosing the font for your website are the size of the text, the spacing of the characters and the line spacing.

 Text size

When choosing the size of the text on your site, you will want to break the site into three different text areas. You will want a text size for the main body text, the headings and the sub-heading text sizes.  Typically the main body text will be around 12px for readability.  If this is a little to big you can try the 10px for the body text.  For the headings most sites use a 14-18px size and the sub-headings are 14-16 px.  It may be necessary to try a few different sizes to find the ones that work the best for you.

   Character spacing

Text spacing and attributes also influence the look of your website.  Using BOLD, UNDERLINE or CAPITAL letters and spacing are some of the more common attributes.  It’s important to not over use these.  When they get used too much they can take away the attention from what you are trying to show the visitor.  Typically designers like to use just plain text for the body and save the attributes for headings and sub-headings.

    Line spacing

When choosing the line spacing for your site, the main thing to consider is the overall readability of your site.Usually additional line spacing is used to separate the Heading from the main body text and sub-headings from the body.  With a little time and consideration, it’s possible to find the best font for your site.
